LETTER FROM THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS-BUSINESS CONTINUITY

LETTER FROM THE TYSL BOARD OF DIRECTORS

On Tuesday (6/30) evening, TYSL will host its very first remote Annual General Meeting (AGM).  Remote meetings have become the norm for so many as we navigate the uncharted waters of a socially-distanced world.  As the final governance forum of the 2019-20 soccer year the AGM serves as the platform to both close-out official business of the current year and simultaneously set the tone for the next one.  Indeed, this year has been one of challenge, perseverance, disappointment, optimism, uncertainty and, of course, hope.  This past spring, TYSL faced the unprecedented cancellation of soccer activities that disconnected us all from the coaches, players and supporters that comprise our membership.  The picture for the Fall, although still a bit over the horizon, remains unclear.  What is clear though is the commitment of the TYSL BOD to uphold the business integrity of TYSL and maintain a state of organizational readiness to return to activities once cleared to do so.

In order to ensure the organization can respond appropriately and avoid significant disruption to its operations, the TYSL BOD, in June, agreed to propose an amendment to the TYSL Constitution at this year’s AGM.  This amendment would establish a Business Continuity Plan.  This plan is designed to address crisis situations and grant the BOD emergency powers to ensure TYSL programs could endure the upheaval brought on by emergencies.  If passed, the TYSL BOD expects to enact the following emergency orders for immediate effect.  The TYSL BOD will move to suspend elections for all sitting director positions and subsequently extend the term of those offices for 12 months.  The TYSL BOD felt, unanimously, that leadership transition at this time would create more unnecessary disruption to our program and place any new incoming directors in an unfair situation.  Our hope is that by maintaining the same leadership team we can see this situation out as seamlessly as possible.  There are, however, several open leadership positions on our BOD which we are seeking to fill.  There will be more to come in July on the topic of open BOD positions.

Sincerely

TYSL Board of Directors
