The Tewksbury Youth Soccer League (TYSL) Travel Teams participate in the Middlesex Youth Soccer League (MYSL). MYSL is made up of teams from 19 towns and cities within Middlesex County. There are two seasons, a fall season which is developmental and a spring season which is competitive. The fall season consists of 8 games and there are no playoffs at the end of the season. The spring season consists of 10 games and playoffs for the top teams are conducted by the league. The top teams in each division (U12 and up) may also qualify for state tournament competition which is a playoff between the leagues on a state-wide basis.
Tryouts are usually held in June for the fall teams and October for the spring teams. Times and dates are posted on the web site, the cable channel, and local papers. Generally two dates are selected and all players must attend at least one tryout to be considered. If you are unable to tryout due to a medical problem and still want to be considered for a team, you must provide a note from a doctor stating that you cannot participate prior to the last tryout. Selection for the fall team does not guarantee placement on the spring team. Tryouts are competitive and there are a limited number of roster spots. If you are selected for a team, you will receive a call from the coach. If you are not selected for a team, you will receive a letter from the league.
Games can be as far away as Arlington or Revere and as close as Wilmington or Lowell. The travel teams practice twice a week and play their games on Saturdays or Sundays. Usually, half the games are played at home and half away. In addition, the team may elect to play in a tournament, usually in the fall on Columbus Day or Veterans Day weekend.
The following age groups participate in the Middlesex League. In the fall season: U10, U12, U14. In the spring season: U10, U12, U14, U16, U18.
The U10 teams will carry up to 12 players on the roster and play 6 v 6. At the U12 level teams will play 8 v 8. All other divisions, the teams play 11 v 11 and carry up to eighteen players on the roster.
